The highest point close to Brisbane, a forested mountain west of the city with a lookout at its summit over the whole city and its winding river, and on clear days Moreton Bay and its islands on the eastern horizon. The best time to visit is sunset and after, when the towers light up and the suburbs twinkle to the horizon. The lookout has a café and restaurant with a view, and locals and visitors come for dinner and photos. The mountain's slopes are covered in forest with walking and bike trails and small waterfalls, and at its foot are the Brisbane Botanic Gardens with a tropical glass dome and a planetarium, so they fit into half a day. The lookout is free and open at all times, reached by car or bus from the city centre, or on foot along the forest trails for the energetic.
