A mountain in Hunan known as the «Southern Mountain» of China's Five Great Mountains; it is a range about 150 km long with 72 peaks, the highest being Zhurong Peak at about 1,300 m, and much of it lies in the Nanyue district of Hengyang. At its foot stands the Grand Temple of Mount Heng, the largest temple complex in southern China and Hunan's largest group of ancient buildings; old Buddhist and Taoist temples line its slopes along with the Southern Gate of Heaven, and on the summit stands the stone Zhurong Hall. Seas of cloud can be seen from the heights, and rime frost coats the peaks on some winter days. Tickets to the central scenic area cost CNY 110, and the eco-bus from the visitor centre to the Southern Gate of Heaven 78 return; the cable car is suspended with no announced reopening, and the Grand Temple at the foot has its own ticket, per visitor guides.
