Pulag is the highest mountain on Luzon, with rounded summits covered in golden and green grass, a sea of clouds below the peak at dawn as the sun rises over it, and vegetable fields on the lower slopes. The mountain rises to 2,928 m and is the third-highest in the Philippines and the second most prominent. The borders of Benguet, Ifugao and Nueva Vizcaya meet at its summit. It is famous for its sea of clouds and its view of the Milky Way at dawn. It was declared a national park in 1987, covering 11,550 ha, and is home to the Ibaloi and other peoples, who consider it sacred. You climb with a guide, usually setting off at night to reach the summit before dawn, watch the sunrise over the sea of clouds and take in the wide grasslands around you. The summit is about 39 km in a straight line east of Baguio. It is very cold at the top before dawn, so bring very warm clothes, and respect the mountain's sacred status for local people.
