A green hill above Coron town, climbed by a stairway of about 720 steps to a summit around 210 metres high. From the top you see the whole town and Coron Bay with its islands, the limestone mass of Coron Island on the horizon, and the boats in the harbour. The favourite time to climb is an hour before sunset, to reach the top as the sun goes down behind the islands and the sea and sky turn gold and orange. The stairway has shaded rest platforms, and the climb takes half an hour to an hour depending on fitness. At the top are a large cross and a broad platform where people gather to watch the sunset. On clear mornings it is cooler and the view sharper. The climb is free. Carry water, as the stairway is long and the heat strong, and take a torch for the descent after sunset. Afterwards you can relax in the nearby Maquinit saltwater hot springs.
