An amusement park and gardens on the summit of Mount Mtatsminda, the highest point in Tbilisi at around 770 metres, covering more than a hundred hectares. It offers the widest view over the whole city, the famous TV tower beside it is visible from most districts, and its lights sparkle above the capital at night. Founded in the 1930s, it was once among the most visited public parks in the Soviet Union and was completely renewed in the early twenty-first century. It has carousels, water slides, a roller coaster, a ghost castle and a sixty-five-metre Ferris wheel on the edge of the mountain. The most enjoyable way up is the funicular, built in 1905, which climbs about five hundred metres up a steep slope from Chonkadze Street to an upper station at 727 metres. The upper station has a restaurant and cafés with terraces over the city, and the summit can also be reached by road. Entry to the park is free, while rides and the funicular are paid with a rechargeable card sold at the stations; fares change, so check at the ticket office. Evenings are the best time, when it cools down and the city lights up below you.
