West Kalimantan's largest mosque and Pontianak's congregational mosque, rebuilt in the past decade on an imposing modern design, with a great dome and four tall minarets visible across the city and broad paved courtyards holding thousands. The prayer hall is spacious and bright, with Malay geometric ornament, Arabic calligraphy, huge chandeliers and red carpet. It fills for Friday prayer, Ramadan and Eid, and hosts study circles and the province's major religious events. Entry is free. Non-Muslims visit outside prayer times in modest dress. It is the handiest mosque for Friday prayer in Pontianak and loveliest at night when lit. It stands on the main avenue near the shopping centres.
