Muro Alto, High Wall, is a beach about three kilometres long north of Porto de Galinhas, some 54 kilometres from Recife. It is named after a long wall of reef that runs along most of it, holding back a broad natural lagoon of calm, warm, clear water, said to be one of the largest natural pools in Latin America. The calm water makes it good for families and children, for paddling and gentle swimming, unlike the beaches with strong surf. A string of large resorts and luxury hotels lines it, and many of its visitors are their guests. If you are not staying at a resort, ask about the public access paths to the beach, and bring your own water and shade. It combines easily with the Porto de Galinhas natural pools on the same day.
Calm and warm.
That named it.
On still water.
