The Musée Bonnard in the town of Le Cannet above Cannes is the world's only museum devoted to the painter Pierre Bonnard — a great Post-Impressionist and master of warm colour. Bonnard spent his last years here in his villa Le Bosquet, painting the southern light, its gardens and his wife's famous baths — so the town made his museum in a Belle Époque mansion in 2011. The collection follows Bonnard's relationship with the Riviera: paintings, drawings and objects explaining how he turned Mediterranean light into colour that almost glows off the canvas. A small, elegant specialist museum, without crowds, for the modern-painting lover specifically. Minutes above Cannes (bus or car) — a quiet artistic break from the Croisette's bustle.
