A bus runs from Lyon to Rochetaillée-sur-Saône, taking about thirty to forty minutes depending on the line and time. Check the timetable in both directions before going, especially the last return — suburban services thin out in the evening.
More than you would expect, because of the setting: a château and riverside garden make it an outing. But be realistic — the substance is vehicles. If you have no interest at all and little time in Lyon, the city itself comes first.

A museum of cars, motorcycles, bicycles and public transport in a château and park on the bank of the Saône north of Lyon, regarded as one of the most important transport collections in France. The collection spans more than a century, starting with the primitive vehicles of the late nineteenth. A number of pieces are very rare or unique, among them cars built in Lyon itself — the city was a centre of early French car manufacture before the industry concentrated in Paris. The public transport section shows Lyon's historic trams and buses, unusual in a car museum and tying the collection directly to the city. The setting is an advantage in itself: a historic château and park overlooking the Saône valley, so the visit combines the museum with a walk in the grounds. Practical points: it lies about twelve kilometres north of Lyon, easiest by car though a bus runs. Allow half a day including travel. Hours are seasonal — check before going.
