The Juan Manuel Fangio Motor Museum is devoted to the most famous racing driver in Argentina's history, set in the centre of Balcarce a few blocks from the house where Fangio was born on 24 June 1911; he went on to win the Formula One world championship five times. It officially opened on 22 November 1986, an initiative of Fangio himself. It shows more than fifty cars and all the champion's trophies, from a rebuilt version of the Ford he started with to the cars he drove in the long South American road races and in Europe, along with cars of his fellow drivers. Visitors climb a spiral ramp linking eight levels, with photographs and documents telling the story of his career. Entry is 32,000 pesos for adults, and it opens daily from 10 am. Balcarce is about an hour's drive from Mar del Plata.
