Town legend.
The Museu Dona Beja in central Araxá, Minas Gerais, is devoted to the story of Ana Jacinta de São José, known as Dona Beja, the most famous figure in the city's nineteenth-century history, whose life has inspired novels and television series. The museum holds original nineteenth-century furniture, old tools and everyday objects from that period, and is run by the Calmon Barreto cultural foundation. It recently launched a 360-degree virtual tour for those who want to visit from afar. Visitors report free entry, and the building has a small lift for up to three people but no car park. It stands on Praça Coronel Adolfo, and the visit combines well with the Barreiro complex and its Fonte Dona Beja, tied to her legend. Check opening times with the foundation before going.
