The Dinosaur Museum lies in the rural village of Peirópolis, part of Uberaba in Minas Gerais, about twenty-five kilometres from the city. In the early twentieth century the area was known for limestone, and its name honours the Spanish immigrant Frederico Peiró, who built factories there. Fossils were discovered in the 1940s, and the palaeontologist Llewellyn Ivor Price led extensive excavations that drew attention across the scientific community. Until the late 1980s the finds were sent to the National Museum in Rio, until in 1992 local residents founded a research centre named after Price and the Dinosaur Museum in the old railway station building, part of the Peirópolis Cultural and Scientific Complex since 2010. The museum has replicas, original fossils and interactive exhibits, including material on Uberabatitan ribeiroi, a long-necked dinosaur over twenty-six metres long. It opens Tuesday to Sunday from 8:00 to 17:00, with free entry according to 2025 reports.
