Old architecture.
The Luiz Saffi Municipal Historical Museum in Barra Bonita occupies an old railway station built in 1929, which an academic study describes as an architectural and historical landmark for the city, the building having served several purposes over the years. The Barra Bonita railway was set up in 1920 to link the town on the Tietê River to the state's rail network, at a time when coffee and then sugarcane drove the region's economy and riverboats carried produce along the river. The museum holds documents, photographs, objects, antiques and many curiosities about Barra Bonita's history, from its beginnings to its rise as a riverside tourist destination on the Tietê. It makes a short visit that pairs well with the Ponte Campos Salles and the lock; check opening times with the city.
