The Visconde de Guarapuava Museum in central Guarapuava, Paraná, occupies the former residence of Antônio de Sá Camargo, who received the title of Viscount of Guarapuava for his services to the empire of Pedro II and his part in the Paraguayan War. The building was put up by enslaved people, and the ruins of the Viscount's slave quarters still stand on the site as a witness to that period of the region's history. The museum, founded in 1948, occupies a colonial-style building facing Praça 9 de Dezembro and is a focal point of the city. Visitors describe a small museum with friendly, knowledgeable staff who give guided tours, and three times a year, during the school holidays, it holds a free evening event at which «the Viscount» greets guests in the gardens.
