Nabran is a coastal and forested area on the Caspian Sea in northeast Azerbaijan, in the Khachmaz district, about three hours by car from Baku. It stretches for several kilometres between sea and forest and is one of the country's best known summer resorts, especially for families escaping the capital's heat. The municipality includes several villages, among them Nabran, Dalgali, Turist and Mashali, and has fewer than 1,500 permanent residents, though its resorts fill up in summer. People come for its mild climate, with dry, warm summers and wet winters that are usually not especially cold. The beach is long, with sand and pebbles, and behind it stands thick broadleaf forest crossed by streams, shady paths and picnic spots. Accommodation ranges from large resorts to small houses among the trees. In season you will find jet skis and sunbeds, while out of season it is quiet and most services close. Nabran is 46 km in a straight line from both Qusar and Quba, so it combines with either. Summer is best for swimming, but July and August bring crowds and higher prices, so book early. Spring and autumn are kinder for forest walks. Bring mosquito repellent for the evenings.
