Natural Bridge is a rock formation on the Kicking Horse River in Yoho National Park, British Columbia, on the road to Emerald Lake, about 4 km west of the village of Field in a straight line. The sign at the site gives its elevation as 1,207 metres. The Kicking Horse is a Rocky Mountain river with three waterfalls along its course, the second being the Natural Bridge Falls near Field. The river's name comes from an incident in 1858, when the explorer James Hector was kicked by his packhorse near Wapta Falls. Here the river has cut a channel through a hard rock ledge, leaving a slab of rock spanning the channel like a bridge. Milky green water surges under the rock span and drops in short falls between grey rock striped with tilted layers. Pine forest surrounds the site, and snow-capped Yoho peaks rise behind it. The site has a car park and viewing areas close by on both sides of the river, so the visit is short and easy. Do not climb on the rocks or go near the water, as the current is very strong. Visitors usually combine it with Emerald Lake on the same road.
