A park recreating parts of the Yuanmingyuan, the famous imperial garden of Beijing nicknamed «the Garden of Gardens», begun in 1709 and burned in 1860 during the Second Opium War, leaving only ruins; 18 of its 40 scenes were chosen and rebuilt here at their original size. It took four years and about CNY 600 million to build and opened on 2 February 1997 at the foot of Shijing Mountain; it counts among the ten best-known sights of Zhuhai, and it is meant not as a museum of the old garden but as a park mixing Chinese and Western culture with shows and restaurants. Visitors enter across a broad square to a main hall under yellow glazed roofs, and around a large lake spread halls, white marble bridges and dragon-shaped boats, a European baroque building echoing the «Western Mansions» of the original garden, and a small garden maze. Entry is free with advance online booking, while shows have their own tickets, per visitor guides. Late afternoon, when the halls are mirrored in the lake, is the loveliest time.
