A calm lake among forested hills near the town of Gabala, in the foothills of the Greater Caucasus, and one of the area's favourite places for an outing. Its green water mirrors the forests and mountains, with snowy peaks on the horizon on clear days. Walking paths circle the lake, and restaurants and cafés on the shore serve fish and Azerbaijani dishes. Small boats can be hired to drift on the water, or you can sit by the shore and watch the water birds. The Gabala area has many resorts and parks, including the Tufandag mountain resort and an amusement park, so many visitors combine the lake with a tour of the area in one day. Walking around the lake is usually free, while boats and restaurants have their own prices. Spring and autumn are the loveliest seasons, when the forests change colour and the weather is mild.
