Núcleo Cunha is one of the management units of Serra do Mar State Park, between Cunha and Ubatuba in São Paulo state, created on 30 August 1974 to protect an important remnant of Atlantic Forest, with its montane and high-altitude rainforest. Its headquarters stand in Cunha at 1,040 metres on top of the Serra do Mar. The unit covers 14,000 hectares, from the plateau at the top of the range to the escarpments dropping towards the Ubatuba coast, at 950 to 1,561 metres, with an average yearly temperature of about 17 °C. It protects springs feeding the Paraíba do Sul basin and forms an ecological corridor with the Santa Virgínia and Picinguaba units. It has nine walking trails and two cycling trails, from the short, accessible Trilha da Bica to long, demanding routes such as the 14.4-kilometre Waterfalls Trail, some requiring an accredited guide. It opens Wednesday to Sunday, and visits need advance booking and a ticket through the official site.
