A theme park and marine zoo on the south coast of Hong Kong Island, opened on 10 January 1977 on 91.5 hectares and spread over both sides of a mountain that divides it into two areas: the Waterfront below and the Summit above. The two are linked by a long cable car that soars over the hills with views of the open sea, an experience in itself, and by a fast funicular train that runs through a tunnel under the mountain. The park has a giant panda habitat, home to pandas since 1999, a large aquarium under what is billed as the world's largest aquarium dome, polar and rainforest zones, four roller coasters and thrill rides on the cliff edge. Adult tickets are about HK$538, per visitor guides, and the South Island metro line stops at Ocean Park station. Give it a full day and start at the Summit in the morning, before the heat and the crowds.
