Orinduik Falls is a wide series of stepped cascades on the Ireng River, at the edge of the Pakaraima Mountains on Guyana's border with Brazil. Water tumbles over steps of dark red rock among open grassy hills. The falls are about 25 m high and more than 150 m wide. The Macushi and Patamona peoples live in villages nearby. The name means falls of the orin in Patamona, orin being a water plant in the river that people dry and chew. You step off a small plane at a nearby airstrip and walk to the rocks. Many visitors swim in the pools between the steps. Around you are green hills and a wide sky. Most trips combine Orinduik with Kaieteur Falls in one day. The falls are about 78 km from Kaieteur and 310 km from Georgetown, reached by small plane from Georgetown. We found no separate fee. The rocks are slippery, so take care walking in the water.
