Orla Taumanan is a large raised structure over the right bank of the Branco River in the historic centre of Boa Vista, capital of Roraima in Brazil's far north, built by the city and opened in July 2004 over 6,500 square metres. Much loved by locals and one of the city's leading sights, it has seating areas, food courts and cafés, and is known for concerts of Brazilian popular music and the regional «Roraimeira» sound. Its position gives a wide view over the Branco River, the state's largest, Ilha de São Sebastião, the Macuxis bridge and, in the dry season, the river beach called Praia Grande; to the south rises the nearly thousand-metre Serra Grande. In a hot Amazonian city, the constant river breeze is a bonus. It stands near the zero point of the original settlement and is made of two platforms, Meiremê («rainbow») and Weikepá («sunrise»). It is at its best at sunset and in the evening.
