A small island off Padang's southern coast and a favourite of the city's young people and families, with soft white sand and clear water in shades of blue and green, coral close to shore for snorkelling, and palms casting shade on the sand. The island has simple huts and camping spots run by locals, and many stay the night for sunset and a sky full of stars far from the city lights; snorkelling gear and canoes can be hired. Boats leave from the Sungai Pisang or Bungus jetty in about half an hour to an hour, priced per group, and the island charges a small entry fee of about twenty to twenty-five thousand rupiah. Services are basic, so bring water and food, book the return boat in advance, and avoid days of high waves. Combine it with nearby Pasumpahan and Sikuai islands.
