Paraíso Perdido, «Paradise Lost», is a private waterfall complex in São João Batista do Glória, about 43 km from Capitólio, in a valley ringed by canyons. It has eight waterfalls and eighteen natural pools stepping down the river, linked by signposted trails. It is one of the best-equipped sites in the area, with clear trails, a restaurant serving home cooking, hot showers and a camping area. It pairs naturally with the boat trip through the Furnas canyons (which has its own page) for anyone wanting a day of swimming and walking away from the lake. It opens daily 8:00-17:00, and entry varies by season at about R$50-55 a person, sometimes with a small discount for cash. Check trail conditions after rain.
