Niterói City Park is an environmental protection area on top of the Morro da Viração, 270 metres up, covering about 149,000 square metres, and opened in 1976. It has two viewpoints with unique panoramic views over the coastal lagoons, the ocean beaches and Niterói's districts, over Guanabara Bay along its whole length and the open sea as far as the eye can reach. From here you can also see Rio de Janeiro with the Rio–Niterói Bridge and its main landmarks, along with the beaches of Piratininga, Itaipu, Camboinhas, São Francisco, Jurujuba and Icaraí. The park has two hang-gliding ramps from which pilots launch over the city, downhill bike and walking trails, playgrounds, a snack bar and an exhibition space. It is a fine spot for sunset over Rio.
