Parque do Povo, officially the Parque do Povo Mário Pimenta Camargo, is a park in São Paulo's Itaim Bibi district that opened on 28 September 2008 over more than thirteen hectares, among the office towers and business districts of the city's south-west. The land belonged to two government bodies and for more than twenty years was used informally by over ten sports clubs, until the city obtained the right to use it. Today the park has three multi-sport courts marked for Paralympic sports, a football pitch, a cycle track, a skate park, walking and running paths, and a life-size chessboard where visitors move giant pieces. One of its most charming corners is the «sensory garden», planted with aromatic herbs such as basil, coriander and mustard for visitors to touch and smell. Its paths were built from materials recycled from the city's demolition rubble, it is fully accessible for people with reduced mobility, and dogs are welcome on a lead.
