Riachinho Municipal Nature Park is a reserve in the village of Caeté-Açu in Palmeiras, created in 2001 to protect part of the Vale do Capão and its natural sights, among them the Riachinho waterfall, over about a hundred hectares. The park had no management plan as of 2019, and the city's poor care of it led prosecutors to open inquiries and sign an agreement with the city to regulate access, use and management under environmental rules. The site carries risks: in 2020 a foreign visitor fell from a cliff there after entering without permission or a guide while it was closed, and the valley's volunteer rescue team urged respect for safety rules. Visit only during opening times and with a local guide, and check its current status with the valley guides' association.
