Córrego Grande Ecological Park, also known as the Córrego Grande forestry garden, is a reserve in the centre-west of Santa Catarina Island in Florianópolis, between the Córrego Grande and Santa Mônica districts. It covers 21.3 hectares and is the only park in the capital lying wholly within the urban area. Its flat ground is crossed by streams, and it receives some 800 visitors a day. It has three trails and a one-kilometre walking track, and serves leisure, environmental education and research. It is a refuge for wildlife near the Federal University of Santa Catarina: a female caiman known as «Harolda» is often seen, opossums and troops of marmosets live there, and its birds include cormorants, herons, toucans and parrots. In 2014 the city's first butterfly house opened here, created by the university's ecology and zoology department. It suits a quiet family walk; entry is usually free.
