Ceará State Botanical Park lies in Caucaia beside the CE-090, the road to the beaches of Icaraí, Tabuba, Cumbuco, Cauípe and Lagoa do Banana, about fifteen kilometres from Fortaleza, and covers 190 hectares. It was created by decree on 9 September 1996 to protect remnants of Ceará's coastal vegetation complex in all its variety: tabuleiro coastal woodland, semi-arid caatinga, Atlantic Forest remnants, cerrado and cerradão, riverside forest and, on its edges, stretches of mangrove. The park makes a good nature outing close to the capital, with shady trails and environmental education spaces, and pairs well with a day on the nearby Cumbuco beaches. Go in the morning before the heat builds, and check opening days.
