Cachoeira da Fumaça State Park is a small reserve on the border of Alegre and Ibitirama in Espírito Santo, in the Caparaó mountains of south-east Brazil. It should not be confused with the famous Fumaça waterfall in Bahia's Chapada Diamantina. Its first land was expropriated on 24 August 1984, and the park was formally established and enlarged by decree on 19 February 2009. It covers 162.5 hectares protecting springs and Atlantic Forest remnants along a stretch of the Braço Norte Direito River, a tributary of the Itapemirim. Its highlight is the Fumaça waterfall, which drops 144 metres and throws up a smoke-like spray that gives it its name; it is one of the most visited sites in the area for school trips and tourism. Bromeliads, heliconias and tropical trees surround it, and it lies close to the entrances of Caparaó National Park.
