Campina do Encantado State Park is a reserve in the Ribeira Valley in southern São Paulo state, created by decree on 16 August 1994 as Pariquera Abaixo State Park and given its present name, the «Enchanted Plain», on 26 May 1999 after consulting local schools and communities. The park spans several ecosystems: tall coastal forest, flooded forest, floodplain grassland and restinga, in areas subject to periodic floods. Endangered species such as the red-tailed amazon parrot live here, along with birds including the bell-voiced bare-throated bellbird and the solitary tinamou. Its highlights include a peat bog rich in methane formed by the build-up of organic matter, and archaeological sites. It suits a quiet visit for bird and nature lovers on the way to Iguape; arrange your visit with the park office in advance.
