Sete Passagens («Seven Passes») State Park is a mountain reserve in Miguel Calmon in Bahia's Chapada Norte, about 367 kilometres from Salvador. It covers some 2,800 hectares in a transition zone between Atlantic Forest and caatinga and was created in 2000. The park takes in the Campo Limpo, Sapucaia and Jaqueira ranges south of the Jacobina range, with dozens of green hills cut by valleys, rising to 1,270 metres at its highest point. It is an important water source in a drought-prone area, with many springs feeding streams of the Itapicuru basin. The park protects varied plants and animals, including endangered species, and a small grotto at the top of the mountain holds prehistoric rock paintings. Walkers and nature lovers come for its trails, waterfalls and views. Go with a local guide from Miguel Calmon.
