Forno Grande State Park is an Atlantic Forest reserve in Castelo, in the Espírito Santo highlands, covering 730 hectares and protecting the 2,039-metre Forno Grande peak, the state's second highest, crowned by a broad cloud forest. The area was set aside as a forest reserve on 31 October 1960 and became a state park by law in 1998 to conserve its wildlife and plants; it is part of the Central Atlantic Forest Ecological Corridor and is run by the state environment institute. Endangered species such as the cougar, the ocelot and the southern muriqui monkey live here. The park has trails, waterfalls and a visitor centre with a small museum and wildlife and plant collections; camping is not allowed and there is no restaurant inside. The summit trail has reopened, but infrastructure works meant visits in 2026 often needed booking ahead by email, and the summit climb always needs a reservation; check the current status with the institute before going.
