Pico do Marumbi State Park is a nature reserve in Morretes, Paraná, in the heart of the Serra do Mar range, created by decree in 1990 over 2,342 hectares and enlarged in 2007 to 8,745 hectares of well-preserved forest; it is part of the Lagamar mosaic of protected areas. The park holds the Marumbi Massif, a complex of eight peaks of varying difficulty; the highest, Olimpo, rises to 1,539 metres and was first climbed by Joaquim Olímpio de Miranda on 21 August 1879. Other summits include Boa Vista, Gigante, Ponta do Tigre and Esfinge. The historic Curitiba–Paranaguá railway runs through the park. The climbs are demanding and an experienced guide is advised; the area is very rainy, driest from April to October. Entry is free; check the weather and registration rules before hiking.
