Serra da Baitaca State Park lies between Quatro Barras and Piraquara in greater Curitiba, on the edge of the Serra do Mar. It was created on 5 June 2002 over 3,053 hectares, is run by the Paraná environment institute, and combines natural, historic and tourist value. Its best-known landmark is the Morro Pão de Loth, about 1,283 metres high and one of the area's leading hiking and mountaineering spots; the climb to the top takes about two hours on average. The park also holds the Morro do Anhangava, a favourite of Curitiba climbers for sunrise and sunset over the mountains. Entry is free, but camping is not allowed. The trails are rocky and steep in places, so wear proper shoes and carry water, start early to be back before dark, and avoid rainy days when the rock turns slippery.
