Parque Germânia, formerly called Parque Alemanha, is a park in Porto Alegre's Jardim Europa district, opened by mayor José Fogaça on 26 March 2006, the day the city turned 234. It was named in honour of German immigration to Rio Grande do Sul. It covers 15.11 hectares, with a lake, tennis, basketball and football courts, a protected area of native vegetation closed to visitors, some 460 benches, round-the-clock security and parking. In 2022 the «Bio Germânia» opened inside it, a space with a library, auditorium, café and community vegetable garden, run in partnership between the city and the neighbourhood friends' association. It makes a quiet walk around the lake in the east of the city.
