Pre-Delta National Park protects the start of the Paraná delta, where the great river splits into islands, channels and small lakes, south of the town of Diamante in Entre Ríos. It covers a stretch of river and three islands, with raised banks under riverine forest, still lagoons and low marshes that flood. It is a haven for birdwatchers, with many water and forest birds; floating plants and flowers fill the water, and willows and ceibo trees with red blossoms line the banks. The visitor area has short trails of 400 and 900 metres and a newer, longer trail of about an hour and a half with viewpoints, plus a small campground. Entry is free, daily 07:00-20:00. The last six kilometres from Diamante are gravel, and boat trips also explore the delta channels.
