The Olympic Park is a sports and leisure complex built for the 2016 Summer Olympic and Paralympic Games in the Barra Olímpica district of western Rio de Janeiro, on a triangular headland jutting into the Jacarepaguá Lagoon. It covers 118 hectares on the site of the old Nelson Piquet international racetrack, and took four years to build from 2012. The park holds the three Carioca Arenas, the Olympic Tennis Centre, the velodrome, the Olympic Arena and the Maria Lenk Aquatic Centre, plus buildings that housed the main media centre. After the Games, leisure areas, gardens and a «Wall of Champions» were laid out along the great central concourse, the Via Olímpica, which became a public park in January 2017 and hosted the Rock in Rio festival in 2017, 2019, 2022 and 2024. In May 2024 the city opened the 136,000-square-metre Rita Lee Park on part of the site. It suits a walk among the Olympic venues by the lagoon; check events.
