Paso Córdoba is a municipal protected area of General Roca, on both banks of the Río Negro near the city, spreading over some seventeen thousand hectares of plateaus and rocky valleys. Its cliffs expose layers from the Late Cretaceous and later ages, recording millions of years of the region's ancient rivers and lakes. Its best-known sights are the two «valleys of the moon»: the red one, of Cretaceous rock, and the yellow one, of pale sediments rich in volcanic ash, with narrow canyons and old river channels. There are many dinosaur footprint sites, some equipped for visits, and fossil remains of dinosaurs, turtles and ancient mammals. Its tracks suit walking and cycling. Entry is free, and it lies about an hour's drive from Neuquén city. Summer is very hot in the valleys, so spring and autumn suit best; bring water and a hat.
