Pattaya's main beach, an arc of sand about three kilometres long in front of the city centre, bordered by Beach Road with its renewed promenade and trees, with hotels and malls behind. It is the heart of the city and the first thing visitors see. The beach has umbrellas and loungers for hire and water sports, and boats leave from here for Koh Larn. The new promenade along its length suits an evening stroll with the family, and nearby are big malls such as Central Festival and many restaurants, including Arab and halal ones around the beach area. The beach is free and always open, but its water is less clear than the islands' because it is close to the city and harbour, so many prefer to swim at Koh Larn. A note for families: the southern end near Walking Street becomes a nightlife zone at night that does not suit families. The best time is sunset on the promenade. For a quieter beach within the city, Jomtien to the south suits families better.

Acceptable but not the best, as the water is less clear. For lovely swimming, take the ferry to Koh Larn, about forty minutes, where the water is clearer and the sand cleaner.
