Pedra do Baú is a gneiss massif rising to 1,950 metres above São Bento do Sapucaí, near Campos do Jordão, made of three neighbouring rocks: the big Baú, the small Bauzinho and Ana Chata. Since 28 December 2010 it has been a protected «natural monument» of 3,154 hectares, with more than two hundred climbing routes. The easiest visit is the self-guided Bauzinho trail, the only paid one (R$18), with toilets and a snack bar and a close view of the big rock. Climbing the Baú itself is by a via ferrata of about 600 metal rungs fixed in the rock, allowed only with a booking and safety gear. The site opens 9:00-18:00.
