Pedra do Goiapaba-Açu is an 850-metre peak on the border of Santa Teresa and Fundão in Espírito Santo, about an hour from Vitória. It is the main feature of the Goiapaba-Açu Municipal Park, in the transition zone between the mountains and the coastal plain. The summit gives a wide view down the whole slope of the Serra do Castelo to the sea, taking in green mountains, coastal plains and the Atlantic in a single sweep. Remnants of Atlantic Forest surround the rock, and there are walking trails in the area. Many visitors combine the climb with a visit to the nearby mountain town of Santa Teresa, known for its Italian heritage and mild climate. Go on a clear day for the view and set off in the morning.
