Monte Verde is a mountain village in the Mantiqueira range of southern Minas Gerais, part of the municipality of Camanducaia, known for its cool climate, wooden chalets and forests, and a favourite winter escape for people from São Paulo. Pedra Redonda, the «Round Rock», is one of its best-known peaks, at about 1,950 metres. A 926-metre trail of moderate difficulty climbs to the top, fitted with steps, handrails and clear signs, and ends at a lookout over the Mantiqueira summits and forested valleys. The trailhead is about 3.7 kilometres from the village centre and can be reached on foot, by bike, by car or by jeep. Entry is paid and must be booked in advance, as the trail lies inside a park that limits visitor numbers. A clear morning gives the best view.
