Pedraza is a walled medieval village in Segovia province, Castile and León, central Spain, about 33 km northeast of Segovia in a straight line. Fewer than 500 people live there. The village is famous for its Night of the Candles festival every July, when residents and people from nearby towns light candles along the streets and houses and concerts of Spanish classical music are held in the centre. It has a stone castle and a medieval main square. The village stands on a rocky plateau ringed by walls, with old stone houses with wooden and iron balconies and family coats of arms carved above the doors lining its cobbled lanes. Arcades on stone and wooden columns surround the main square, with golden plains and distant mountains around the village. Visitors enter through the gate in the walls and wander the lanes to the main square and the castle, and eat roast lamb in the local restaurants. The village is especially lovely on the Night of the Candles and makes a day trip from Segovia or Madrid.
