A tropical bird park at Seberang Jaya on the mainland side of Penang state, across the bridge from the island, with hundreds of birds of more than three hundred species, about half of them native. You wander through large walk-in aviaries where birds fly around you, and past ponds and gardens, seeing big hornbills with their colourful bills, storks, white swans, parrots, peacocks, Malay eagle owls and iridescent Nicobar pigeons. Short bird shows run at set times each day. An adult ticket costs sixty-five ringgit, less for children, and it opens daily from nine in the morning to six in the evening, holidays included. It suits families and children especially. You will need a car or ride-hailing app to cross the bridge, about half an hour from George Town depending on traffic, so come in the morning when the birds are most active and the air cooler.
