Whole, no (5-7 serious rim hours) — but its sample, yes: the first paved hour to the iron Ninho passage, out and back, gives the greatest scenes at fair effort for walking-used over-tens — serious shoes, water, and return before the midday cloud. Short of that: the platforms alone suffice the astonishment.

Arieiro is Madeira's sky opened by car: the island's third peak (1,818m) and the only one paved to its head — half an hour from Funchal delivers you above the cloud sea: clouds as a white carpet below and the volcanic summits as islands in it: the scene that built the whole mountain island's fame. Its platforms around the radar suffice non-walkers — while the Arieiro-Ruivo trail (PR1) leaving it counts among Europe's finest mountain paths outright: stairways, tunnels and rim passages toward the mother summit (its first hour to the iron Ninho passage walks out-and-back for those wanting the sample, not the day). Its weather is its secret: the summit rides above the cloud while the city sits below — so leave while the sun shines over Funchal, or fail — and dawn here (sunrise over the cloud sea) is by testimony Madeira's greatest scene. The cold is real: ten degrees under the coast, a layer forever obligatory.
