Pico do Cristal is the sixth highest peak in Brazil at 2,769 metres, according to measurements by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics and the Military Engineering Institute, revised by the institute in 2016. It rises in the Caparaó range inside Caparaó National Park, in the municipality of Alto Caparaó in Minas Gerais. The peak lies just 930 metres from the Espírito Santo border and about 1,940 metres from Pico da Bandeira, Brazil's third highest mountain and the highest in the south-east, and each is visible from the other. Cristal is the highest mountain lying entirely within Minas Gerais. Many climb Cristal on Caparaó National Park trips, often together with Pico da Bandeira, along high mountain trails that call for good fitness and warm clothing, as temperatures drop sharply at night and in winter. Entry to the national park is paid; check weather and trail conditions.
