Pico do Papagaio, «Parrot Peak», is a mountain on Ilha Grande near Angra dos Reis rising to about 980 metres, and its summit gives a wide view over the island. Its trail is the hardest on Ilha Grande: it starts from Abraão village along the road to Dois Rios (trail T14), and after about 1,500 metres a sign marks the start of trail T13, a steep climb through dense forest where you cannot see the sky. The ascent takes three to four hours and the descent two and a half to three, so the round trip is six to seven hours. The trail is free, but an accredited guide who knows the terrain and the weather is strongly advised, and avoid starting after midday. Some operators run night ascents to watch the sunrise from the top.
