On the hill's edge.
The Piedra Movediza, the Moving Stone, was a balancing rock of about 300 tonnes on the edge of La Movediza hill in Tandil, rocking so slowly the eye could not see it; the story goes that people set glass bottles beneath it for the stone to crush. It drew visitors from everywhere until it fell and broke on 29 February 1912, for reasons never known for certain. Nearly a century later a faithful replica was set on the same ledge, restoring the city's emblem, and the hill gives a wide view over Tandil and its distinctive rocky hills. Walkways and panels around the site tell the story. The site is free and open. Tandil is a small hill town about four hours' drive from Buenos Aires, known for its rocky hills and country produce.
On the hill's edge.
And rocky hills.
A mystery fall.
La Movediza hill, Tandil, Buenos Aires province
No. The original fell in 1912; today's is a replica set on the same ledge.
