Pireneus State Park protects 2,833 hectares of the Serra dos Pireneus, one of the highest ranges in Goiás, about 20 km from Pirenópolis by dirt road. At its heart is the Pico dos Pireneus (1,385 m), on the watershed between the Plata and Tocantins basins; dozens of small springs feed the Rio das Almas on one side and the Corumbá on the other. A trail of about 600 metres, some 15 minutes' walk, climbs to the summit, where a small stone chapel built in 1935 stands and the view opens in every direction. Nearby, the Morro Cabeludo, over 1,350 m, shows quartzite about a billion years old, and the rocky savanna holds cacti, orchids and bromeliads found nowhere else. Entry is free; the park opens daily 8:00-17:00, with entry until 15:00.
